Source This product is the dried twigs of Lauraceae Cinnamomum cassia Presl. Harvest in spring and summer, remove leaves, sun-dried, or slice and sun-dried.

Characters This product is long cylindrical, multi-branched, 30-75cm long, 0.3-1cm in diameter at the butt end. The surface is reddish-brown to brown, with longitudinal ridges, fine wrinkles and small pimple-like leaf scars, branch scars, bud scars, and lenticels. Hard and brittle, easy to break. The slice thickness is 2-4mm, the bark is reddish-brown, the xylem is yellowish-white to light yellowish-brown, and the pith is slightly square. It has a specific aroma, sweet, slightly spicy, with a strong skin flavor.

Storage Store in a cool dry place.

Processing Remove impurities, soak for a while, wash, moisten thoroughly, cut into thin slices, and dry. This product is a round, oval piece or irregular segment. The skin is reddish-brown, with punctate lenticels or longitudinal ridges sometimes visible on the surface, the xylem is yellowish-white or light yellowish-brown, and the pith is round or slightly square.

Identification :

(1) The cross section of this product: 1 row of epidermal cells, single-cell non-glandular hairs can be seen in the shoots. There are 3 to 5 rows of cork cells, and the outer wall of the innermost row of cells is thickened. There are scattered oil cells and stone cells in the cortex. The sylcholithiasis cells are arranged in a ring intermittently, and are accompanied by fiber bundles. There are scattered secretory cells and fibers in the phloem. The cambium is obvious. The xylem rays are 1 to 2 rows of cells wide, containing brown matter; the vessels are singly scattered or 2 to several aggregated; the wood fiber wall is thin, and it is difficult to distinguish it from the wood parenchyma cells. The pith cell wall is slightly thick and lignified. The ray cells contain tiny needles of calcium oxalate.

(2) Take 0.5g of this product powder, add 10ml of ethanol, plug it tightly, soak it for 20 minutes, shake it from time to time, filter it, and use the filtrate as the test solution. Another reference substance of cinnamic aldehyde was taken, and ethanol was added to make a solution containing 1 μl per 1 ml, as the reference substance solution. According to the thin-layer chromatography (Appendix VI B) test, draw 10-15 μl of the test solution and 2 μl of the reference solution, respectively, point them on the same silica gel-thin layer plate, and use petroleum ether (60-90 ℃)-ethyl acetate. (17:3) is the developing agent, unfold, take out, air dry, and spray with dinitrophenylhydrazine ethanol test solution. In the chromatogram of the test substance, the same orange-red spots were displayed on the corresponding position of the chromatogram of the reference substance.

Meridian: Return to the heart, lung and bladder meridians.

Nature and flavor: pungent, sweet, warm.

Functions and indications: sweating and releasing muscle, warming and dredging meridians, helping yang to transform qi, calming chong and lowering qi. For wind-cold cold, abdominal cold pain, blood-cold amenorrhea, joint arthralgia, phlegm-drinking, edema, palpitations, beating pig.

(1) Cinnamon twig is pungent and warm, good at dispelling wind-cold, and can cure cold, wind-cold, fever and aversion to cold. It can be used whether there is sweating or no sweating. Such as wind-cold symptoms, the body does not sweat, when used together with ephedra, it has the effect of phase beard, which can promote sweating; such as wind-cold symptoms, be careful with sweating on the body, with peony, etc., it has the effect of coordinating health and defense. Guizhi can warm the meridians, and for rheumatism arthralgia caused by cold-dampness, it is often used in combination with aconite, Qianghuo, and Fangfeng. Cinnamon twig is warm in nature, good at activating yang qi, can transform yin and cold, suppress yang qi against yin and cold, and prevent body fluid from distributing, so water-dampness stagnates and forms phlegm-drinking symptoms. Loss of division, unfavorable urination, use cinnamon sticks to clear the yang and transform qi, and help the water medicine to clear the urine. It is often used in combination with Polyporus, Alisma, etc.

(1) Although both Guizhi and Mahuang can sweat, but Mahuang is hard to vent, can open the stomach and penetrate the hair orifices. It warms the meridians, can reach the yang energy and relieve the surface, and the effect of sweating is relatively weak. Therefore, in the treatment of wind-cold symptoms and without sweating, it is often combined with ephedra to enhance its sweating effect; while for the treatment of wind-cold symptoms and spontaneous perspiration and aversion to wind, ephedra is not used, and it is often used with peony to coordinate defense and release cold. . Cinnamon twig is warm and helps heat, if it is used improperly, it will hurt the yin and move blood, so it should not be used in the case of warm-heat disease, yin deficiency and fire exuberance and hemorrhage.
